Hoyt Dominates 2022 Vegas Shoot

It was an incredible week for Team Hoyt at the 2022 Vegas Shoot. From Hoyt shooters racking a total of 81 perfect 300 scores to 15-year-old Bodie Turner stunning the Open Championship class with a 1st place win.

Team Hoyt started off strong in the first competition rounds with a slew of archers getting perfect 300 scores. One of those archers, Rishabh Yadav, didn't just get a perfect 300 in scoring rounds but also won the 10k-A-Day shoot-off Friday night.

During the Vegas Shoot, the Indoor World Series Finals were also held Saturday night. Before beginning the Indoor World Series Finals, there was a friendly exhibition held between Sara Lopez of Columbia and Levi Morgan of the United States. After a great showdown, Sara Lopez came out on top.

The talent didn't end there for Team Hoyt. Hoyt Shooters Toja Ellison and Nico Girard shot amazingly well and both took home 1st place in the Compound Women and Compound Men Divisions, respectively in the Indoor World Series Finals. Casey Kaufhold took 2nd in Women's Recurve, while Mike Schloesser (Compound Men), Ana Maria Rendon (Recurve Women), and Jonah Wilthagen (Recurve Men) all took 3rd.

Shooters continued showing their prowess through the remaining competition rounds with perfect scores coming in left and right. By the end of Sunday's qualification rounds, Hoyt shooters had racked up a total of 81 perfect scores. Furthermore, six Hoyt compound shooters had finished competition rounds with a clean 900: Sergio Pagni, Jesse Broadwater, Liko Arreola, Nico Wiener, Mike Schloesser, and Bodie Turner. All that was left for these archers was the shootdown to be held later that night.

Brady Ellison (Championship Recurve Male), Casey Kaufhold (Championship Recurve Female), and Richard Stark (Championship Barebow) won their divisions outright avoiding the need for a shootdown to claim their 1st place podium spot.

The first shootdown held was for the Championship Compound Female division and featured three women archers who all scored 900 during competition rounds--a first in Vegas Shoot history. In the end, Liko Arreola stayed perfect and beat out Paige Pierce and Tanja Gellenthien to become the back-to-back Vegas champ. Liko was shooting her Invicta 37, equipped with SVX cams.

The Championship Compound Open shootdown started off like it normally does--little by little, the number of archers on the shooting line got smaller and smaller. It finally came down to 4 archers: Dan McCarthy, Sergio Pagni, Nick Kappers, and Bodie Turner. The crowd was ecstatic to see the young Turner still competing so strongly, cheering loudly every time he landed an X.

A dropped arrow by McCarthy and a release malfunction by Pagni narrowed it down to Kappers and Turner. Both shooters went head-to-head for a couple of ends until Kappers dropped a 9, leaving the door open for Turner. Bodie lined up, leveled his Invicta 37 SVX, released his arrow, and found the X, becoming the youngest archer to ever win the Championship Compound Open division at the Vegas Shoot.

Other Hoyt podium finishes include Richard Stark - Championship Barebow (1st), Katharina Bauer - Championship Recurve Female (2nd), Nicholas D'Amour - Championship Recurve Male (2nd), Nathan Zimmerman - Championship Compound Young Adult (2nd), Richard Eckenburg - Championship Barebow (2nd), Gilberts Wilson Sr. - Championship Barebow (3rd), and Jacob Merkel - Championship Compound Young Adult (3rd).

It was an incredible week for Team Hoyt, and we can't wait to get back to Vegas for 2023.
