The US outdoor season kicked off this past weekend in the warm desert of Arizona at the popular Arizona Cup. Make no mistakes, however, this is no warm-up shoot. The AZ Cup is also the USAT (United States Archery Team) season opener, so shooters have a lot on the line as they compete for USAT ranking points and prize money.
Brady Ellison led the way to a Team Hoyt podium sweep in the Senior Recurve Division, winning gold ahead of Matt Nofel and Jack Williams who earned silver and bronze respectively. Ellison also competed in Senior Compound Division where he earned ranking points with a solid 5th place finish among US shooters.
The Women’s Podiums were also dominated by Red with Mackenzie Brown winning gold and the young Casey Kaufhold winning Bronze in the Senior Recurve Division and Hoyt shooters Tojo Ellison and Linda Ochoa-Anderson taking home silver and bronze respectively.
In the Men’s Senior Compound division, the Dutchman Mike “Mr. Perfect” Schloesser added another gold medal to his collection, dominating his finals match by four points.
