EHS Specialist

Job Description ($50k to $60K D.O.E)

While upholding Hoyt’s Vision and Mission, the EHS Specialist is responsible for improving and maintaining Hoyt’s environmental, health and safety management system for the company’s manufacturing operations.  As part of the Hoyt HR Team, the EHS Coordinator will provide guidance and assistance to employees regarding the company’s environmental, health and safety management system.


Responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive environmental, health and safety management system: •Plans and implements procedures, programs, and files regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agencies, such as OSHA, Utah Labor Commission, EPA. 

•Represent the company during inspections and provide recommendations to management in negotiations with safety environment agencies and independent inspection companies. 

•Plans, implements, and oversees the company safety program 

•Maintains all record keeping and manuals for Hoyt’s safety program •Responsible  annual department goals according to key metrics (ex- lost time accidents) that are measured throughout the organization. 

•Communicates closely with and takes day to day orders from the HR Manager, so EHS goals are reached. 

•Provide leadership in developing, implementing and managing EH&S policies, programs and practices. 

•Plans and implements programs to train supervisors and employees to meet standards and to enhance the company safety culture. 

•Conducts all new employee safety orientations program. 

•Assists with employee safety and training; special environmental projects and worker's compensation program. 

•Coordinate with the various departments on waste transportation issues. 

•Tracks and facilitates departmental safety audit process to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented. 

•Assists with the company’s contractor safety program. 

•Develops, maintains and trains employees on emergency responses to environmental, structural, and employee incidents. 

•Assists with the investigation of all incidents and injuries from initial report to closure. 

•Initiates and Manages workers’ compensation claims to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires: 

•    Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations, codes, and standards 

•    Proven ability to interact with regulatory agencies 

•    Experience working collaboratively with other functional groups 

•    Strong organization skills 

•    Problem solving abilities 

•    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; as well as strong interpersonal skills. 

Training and Education:

 •    BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Health & Safety Required Prior Work Experience: 

•    Environmental, Health and Safety        0-5 Years 

•    Manufacturing Experience            2-5 Years 

Physical environment: The position involves working in an office environment, outside and in production area, where there is potential exposure to varying temperature and noise levels, dust, falls, etc. 

Mental pressure: Pressures arise from frequent interruptions, sensitive issues, strong demands from all levels of employees, and managing projects. In addition, this position requires the ability to think and respond effectively and in a timely manner.
